A Train in Kerbal Space Program


 If it wasn't obvious already, I am a big fan of public transport... especially trains. 

In terms of the train I built, I based it off a bunch of different metro/commuter/suburban trains that I have ridden in the past. The most prominent are my local 3000 class diesel railcars and the Comeng Electric Train in Melbourne. Size-wise, however, the train is probably most similar to a Wellington FP 'Matangi' Class, and I definitely took some cues with the 'barrel-esque' shape of the cross section.

I went for longitudinal seats as there was limited space inside. I liked this seating layout and it is common in Japanese commuter trains in particular. I think it looks really neat.

It is pretty simple to operate. Just decouple the train so it sits on the track. Switch to the train and throttle up and it should start moving. If you switch back to the track craft, action groups 1,2 and 3 cycle through the different signals.

I've loosely based them off the railway signaling system local to me, but they may be inaccurate.

A Bus in Kerbal Space Program

 Last week I built a bus in Kerbal Space Program.

As KerbalX is becoming less and less of a good option to post things, I decided it'd be a create a blog to post things that I make. Holidej and Holidej 2.0 content will be going here.

Enough housekeeping, here's the bus:

The bus isn't a replica of any specific bus, however I took a lot of cues from buses in my local area - most notably the MAN NL202 CNG as well as some Scania models for the more boxy shape.

Simply drag the .craft file into your ships folder (sph) and the images attached should go to 'flags' which is in the SQUAD folder which is inside the GameData folder.

Action Groups:

Throttle Up/Down = Motors (moves bus forwards)

RCS = Reverse direction of motors (moves bus backwards)

A/D = Steer left and right

1 = Toggle Doors

2 = Toggle 'Now Stopping' Display
